Introduction
Definition
To start
with, we all wonder what is cancer??
Cancer begins when cells in a
part of the body start to grow out of control and there are many kinds of
cancer, but they all start because of out-of-control growth of abnormal cells.
Cancer is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell
growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. Not
all tumors are cancerous; benign tumors do not spread to other parts of the
body. Possible signs and symptoms include a lump, abnormal bleeding, prolonged
cough, unexplained weight loss and a change in bowel movements.
History
Every
disease has a history where no treatment was offer then
The oldest description of cancer
(although the word cancer was not used) was discovered in Egypt and dates back
to about 3000 BC. The Edwin Smith Papyrus is a copy of part of an ancient
Egyptian textbook on trauma surgery. It describes 8 cases of tumors or ulcers
of the breast that were removed with a tool called the fire drill. However, the
writing says about the disease, “There is no treatment.”
Description
Types
Cancer is a
huge topic and to talk about each type it will take a long time.
The most common type of cancer on
the list is breast cancer, with more than 249,000 new cases expected in the
United States in 2016. The next most common cancers are lung cancer and
prostate cancer.
Causes
Now,
prevention is better than cure and to prevent having cancer we need to know the causes.
Tobacco use is the cause of about
22% of cancer deaths and another 10% is due to obesity, poor diet, lack of
physical activity and drinking alcohol. Other factors include certain
infections, exposure to ionizing radiation and environmental pollutants. In the
developing world nearly 20% of cancers are due to infections such as hepatitis
B, hepatitis C and human papillomavirus (HPV). Also, About 30% of cancer deaths
are a result of the five leading behavioral and dietary risks: high body mass
index, low fruit and vegetable intake, lack of physical activity, tobacco use
and alcohol.
Effects
How cancer
does affect us?? It is even through the disease itself or through the treatment
Cancer treatments can cause side
effects—problems that happen when treatment affects healthy tissues or organs.
Side effects vary from person to person, even among those receiving the same
treatment. Some people have very few side effects while others have many. The
type of treatment(s) you receive, as well as the amount or frequency of the
treatment, your age, and other health conditions you have may also factor into
the side affects you may have.
UAE
Off course there is no need to tell you that cancer is
spread in UAE and is the third cause of death in UAE
The UAE National Health Agenda
2021 has included cancer as one of the Key Performance Indicators to assess the
nation’s health-care goals being on track. The target is to reduce cancer
deaths to about 64.2 per 100,000 of the population by 2021.
UAE has offer a lot of methods to
prevent certain types of cancer. For example, mammogram is the best screening
tool used today to find breast cancer early. It is an X-ray picture of the
breast. It can find cancer before you notice any problems in your breast.
CONCLUSION
In the end all
I can say that after these large developments taking place in the world it is
possible to detect any type of cancer if you continued on permanent medical
tests

Exercise #2.5 Organising your Ted Talk Oral Presentation Transcript - Due on Sat 30 Jan. Midnight
Speaker: Pamela Meyer
Title: How to spot a liar
Main topic: Show the research of why we all lairs, how you
can become a lie spotter and how to be a truth seeking
Sub point: First I will begin with Non-contracted denial;
Studies show that people who are over determined in their denial will resort to
formal rather than informal language. Second, Distancing language, liars will
unconsciously distance themselves from their subject, using language as their
tool. Third, we all think that lairs won't look you in the eyes, but guess what
they look you in the eyes a little too much just to compensate for that myth.
Forth, the deceptive person is always lower his voice, pause, be kind of
herky-jerky. If you ask a deceptive person to tell their story, they're going
to pepper it with way too much detail in all kinds of irrelevant places.
